What to Expect at Your Child’s First Doctor’s Appointment

Check-In & Paperwork

  • Provide insurance card, medical history, and any immunization records.

  • Fill out new patient forms.

Meet the Doctor & Staff

  • Warm introductions to help your child feel comfortable.

  • Time for you to share concerns, questions, or family health history.

Measurements & Vitals

  • Height, weight, and head circumference (for babies/young children).

  • Blood pressure, temperature, and pulse (for older children).

Physical Exam

  • Doctor checks eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, heart, tummy, skin, and reflexes.

  • Depending on age, may include developmental milestone checks (walking, speech, motor skills, etc.).

Vaccinations ( If needed) 

  • eview your child’s immunization schedule.

  • Give any recommended shots (with explanation and comfort strategies).

Growth & Development Discussion

  • Talk about eating habits, sleep, behavior, and social development.

  • Guidance on milestones, safety tips, and what to expect at the next stage.

Q&A Time

  • Opportunity for you to ask any health, parenting, or developmental questions.

  • Doctor may provide handouts or resources for at-home support.

Follow-Up

  • Schedule your child’s next well-visit.

  • Referrals to specialists if needed.
