What excited you about your work?

What excites me most about my work in the community is seeing people’s faces light up. I watch them come to life when they are working out or taking one of my Zumba classes. It is the reason why I love teaching fitness. Getting to be a part of the success stories of my students and seeing them revolutionize their lives. Some are expressing gratitude because my class helped them lose 20 pounds. Some tell me how it made them both physically and mentally stronger, that’s the most rewarding part. I truly enjoy being a fitness coach, Zumba Instructor says Jessica Romero.

Why did you choose Zumba? and how does Zumba help someone?

I chose my field of work in fitness because it is my ultimate passion. As a young girl, I took several dance classes and my ballet teacher, Ms. Joan, always knew I was going to become a dance teacher. Joan helped me venture into the world of teaching by having me assist her in teaching the younger girls. She constantly challenged and mentored me. She was the biggest influence in my life who helped me achieve my dream of becoming a dance and fitness professional. All I have ever done since the age of 6 is dance and workout.

I even went to a performing arts high school and studied drama and dance in college.

I cannot picture myself doing anything else. Zumba is a dance-based fitness program made to improve one’s health by helping tone the body, target different muscle groups, improve heart health, facilitate weight loss and get those good endorphins going. It’s fun, it’s interactive, it’s exhilarating and it’s just an overall great workout. You can burn anywhere from 600 to 1,000 calories in an hour-long class, and you’ll have a great time doing it.

What would you like people to know about you?

People should know that I take the utmost pride in my work. I have a background in dance and musical theater, and I’ve also done competitive sports training, CrossFit and personal one-on-one training courses. Above all, I’m constantly learning and growing to offer my students the most current information and exercises to keep my classes fun and engaging. I think it is imperative for my students to be able to socialize with others and encourage them as they embark on their fitness journey. It helps to inspire healthy competition, encouragement, and support, and it strengthens a sense of belonging and community as they work to achieve their goals. I live, breathe and eat fitness, dance, and Zumba, and I love sharing my passion with my students.
