We had the opportunity to speak with our local hero Kerri Santoro about what excites her. We wanted to get to know her a bit more. This is what she had to say.
What excites me most about the farm-to-table movement is that it allows families to be healthy. We know healthy people are happy and productive. It constantly makes my day feel so fulfilled with joy knowing that I make people smile. I’m proud to be part of something positive for our lives and community here in the High Desert.
I have certifications and degrees in Nursery Production and Management from Victor Valley College. I was the Horticulture Club president while in school. At VVC we found it necessary to educate people about both our Agriculture Department and the industry as a whole. We thought a great way to accomplish that was to start a Certified Farmers Market. Bob Adams, a teacher of mine, nominated me to be in charge of it. I’ve owned and operated it since it was established in 1992.
Finally, the market hosts producers from all over California, which is good news. Our state has such a diverse ecosystem that it provides a huge variety of options to choose from. It is all seasonally produced and provided by both local and regional farms, and the options change from week to week.
