Certified Family Nurse Practitioner
What excites me most about my field today is how nurse practitioners play such a vital role in helping to alleviate the rising health care shortages in our country. We are living in a time when millions of Americans have no access to primary care, but the number of nurse practitioners has exponentially increased in order to help answer that call and I’m proud to be part of that movement. We’re taking on more responsibilities and learning new and complex procedures in order to expand the primary care reach to more rural and underdeveloped inner-city areas that suffer from physician shortages.
I was working as a registered nurse on a medical mission to Haiti in 2012, just a couple years after the earthquake devastated the country, and seeing the influx of support and medical care responding to those in need inspired me to expand my scope of practice and go back to school to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I was attracted to the holistic perspective nurse practitioners bring and the critical role they play inpatient care. When I’m not working, I love spending quality time with God and my family, my wife, young daughter, and friends. I also enjoy playing tennis, surfing, discovering good food places to eat, playing guitar and piano, and hiking.
My goal as a medical provider is to discover the person behind the illness or disease. I aim to serve the patient and patient community that I am part of by providing holistic, patient-centric care that is empowered by excellence in practice and a compassionate heart. I encourage the focus on lifestyle modifications and healthy alternative outside of the conventional “take these pills and call me in the morning.” I also believe strongly in Easter medicine practices, such as acupuncture, spiritual meditation, and aromatherapy as effective treatment alternatives, as long as the patient is willing and open to trying new things. When my patients leave an appointment with me, I want them to feel like they were heard and care for as a person and know that their needs are being looked after.
